University’s academic honesty policy: Northeastern University is committed to the principles of intellectual honesty and integrity. All members of the Northeastern community are expected to maintain complete honesty in all academic work, presenting only that which is their own work in tests and assignments. If you have any questions regarding proper attribution of the work of others, contact your professor prior to submitting the work for evaluation.

Major Topics:
1. Systems of Linear Equations
2. Vector Algebra
3. Polynomial equations including those with complex zeros
4. Conic Sections
5. Exponential and logarithmic functions
6.Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences

Student Obligation:
1. The student should very quickly determine with the assistance of the instructor whether or not he or she has the necessary prerequisites to be studying College Algebra. Completion of Math 4110 is required.
2. Discussion Board Participation
3. Completion of all Reading Assignments, Quizzes, Discussion Board Forums,
mid-term and final examination. These will be used to assess learning

The Write Place: The College of Professional Studies requires clear writing as an integral part of the learning process. There are weekly written assignments in this course that are posted on the class discussion board. These are designed to give the student practice in written expression and to help clarify some of the material he or she is learning in this course. In addition to this requirement by the College, the Mathematics Department believes that students who can communicate their knowledge have a better understanding of the subject matter. Students are required to use the appropriate terms when describing mathematical processes.

Final Letter Grade :
A(93 – 100), A-(90 – 92), B+(87 – 89), B(83 – 86), B-(80 – 82)
C+(77 – 79), C(73 – 76), C-(70 – 72), D+(67 – 69), D(63 – 66)
D-(60 – 62), F(0 – 59).

The quizzes, mid-term, and final examination are based on the problem sets assigned for each chapter. These problems are suggested to help you learn the material and are NOT graded.

Incomplete Grades: Incomplete grades I will be given only when the students fail to complete a single key requirement of the course, such as a test. The incomplete grade will be changed upon completion of the deficiency. Students must file an “Incomplete Clearance Agreement” with the program office. Any student who wishes to clear an “I” which is outstanding for more than one year must petition the Academic Standing Committee for permission.

Methodology :
Each week you will:
1. Read the required sections in the textbook
2. Complete the Assigned Problem Sets(text) which will NOT be graded.
3. Respond to the Discussion Forum. There will be NO discussion forum when the mid-term is given or the final examination is given. There will be TEN forums.
4. Complete a quiz. There will be a quiz each week except when the midterm or the final examination is given. There will be TEN quizzes.

Click on Course Materials to access the above.

Communication/Submission of Work:
Students should use the discussion board to post questions regarding the course material and to respond to one of the week’s discussion forums. The response to a Discussion Forum may be completed in WORD and sent as an attachment. DO NOT USE DOC X. Send as .DOC.

All quizzes, the mid-term and the final examination MUST be taken on blackboard. Students can check their grade using the Check Grade tool in blackboard.

All work should be done during the week it is assigned. Any discussion forum, quiz, or midterm that is TWO weeks late will not be graded and a grade of ZERO will be recorded. The final examination must be taken during the last week AND all other work MUST be completed prior to Final Examination Week

Participation/Discussion Board:
Each week a discussion forum must be completed. The class participation grade is based on your responses to the discussion forums throughout the course.

As the discussion forum responses fulfill the University's Write Place requirement, the style should be formal rather than conversational. Responses should be submitted in complete sentences and may be completed in WORD and sent as an attachment.

The discussion forums will be monitored by the instructor and will be graded based on the quality of the content.

The professor reserves the right to change any item in this syllabus, with proper notice given to the students, as a result of changes in conditions from those anticipated at the beginning of the quarter.

You should also communicate with your fellow classmates regarding Discussion Board Forums. Communicating about the solution to a particular forum is not considered cheating. Remember you can view the work of your fellow classmates. Simply copying another student’s posting would be considered cheating. If you are having difficulty with a particular forum you should view those of your classmates to help you understand the forum.

NOTE: You may ask questions of your instructor VIA EMAIL. DO NOT post questions on the Discussion Board unless you are instructed to do so such as questions regarding to the Mid-Term and Final Examinations.

Academic Integrity/Plagiarism:
Essential to the Mission of Northeastern University is the commitment to the principles of intellectual honesty and integrity. Assignments must demonstrate the student's own work efforts.
